Typical uses
- Topographic mapping and orthophotos of large areas
- Corridor survey along roads, railways, rivers and pipelines
- Forest, coastline and water-resource monitoring
- Search support for emergency services, where approved
Electric or fuel-powered
Electric models such as the CS-25E are quieter and simpler to maintain, with endurance of about 3 to 4 hours according to the manufacturer. Fuel-powered and hybrid airframes such as the CS-35V or CS-40(TW) reach 10 to 12 hours and ranges above 900 km, but they need fuel logistics and more maintenance. Choose by the size of the area, the distance from the take-off site and the payload you need.
Payloads
Typical payloads are mapping cameras, LiDAR, multispectral sensors and dual-sensor gimbals for daylight and thermal imaging. Payload weight reduces endurance; manufacturer endurance figures are measured under specific conditions.
Approvals and export control
Long-range flights are usually beyond visual line of sight and need specific operating approvals. Long-endurance aircraft and their sensors are reviewed for export control before every order; an end-user statement and a government permit may be required.
